Closing Down Sales

The coming weeks will be the last opportunity to shop at our Charity Shop, ‘Rough Edges’. We will be closing this summer.

For the last eleven years Rough Edges has endeavoured to raise funds to support our essential work at Zac’s Place, supporting people living in food poverty, or who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and often facing other challenges too.

During the initial years, we enjoyed opening the shop up to four and half days a week with a large volunteer team. Post Covid we have struggled to maintain this momentum and in recent years have only been able to open one day a week. It has become increasingly difficult for it to be sustainable, both financially and with personnel.

We are incredibly thankful to Richard and Kathryn who have been stalwarts in keeping the shop ticking over in recent times, and initiating a huge clean up of the yard and shop. (Richard has been a consistent volunteer since we opened in 2014). We are also very grateful to all those who have volunteered at different times, and immensely grateful to those who have supported the shop as donors and customers. Steve, our landlord, has been superb and very supportive throughout our time here and we shall be forever grateful to Mike, our first manager, who really got the ball rolling.

It is a model that has worked really well a times, and been much more than just a shop. We always wanted it to be a community, and at times it has achieved that, as well as raising money to keep Zac’s Place going. So it’s going to be goodbye this summer - but not quite yet. We need to sell what we have left.

We have a shop, now more organised than it’s been for several years and it is full of stock ready to be sold at bargain prices. The more we can shift, the more we can still raise even in these last few weeks. We plan to open for four days 12-3pm on Thurs - Sun June 18-21st.

When we have cleared most of the stock, we shall also be selling racking, shelving, and work benches in our final sales, and eventually the van. Please check back here to see updates.

Please note, and this may seem obvious, but we are no longer accepting any donations of goods to the shop, but shoppers are most welcome.

Thank you for your support, even in these coming weeks. What we raise in these sales will continue to help vulnerable people locally.
